The Wicket - December Edition

To Our Cricket Family,

On behalf of the Community Cricket teams across the country, I want to thank all those who have continued to place our game at the heart of communities across Australia over the past 12 months.

It has been fantastic to watch cricket resume its summer rhythm at big stadiums and local grounds, and particularly to see the joy the game brings to so many.

At the same time, the dedication and resilience of the volunteers who drive participation and growth in our game continues to shine through in community clubs and Woolworths Cricket Blast centres.

Australian Cricket released its new five-year strategy at the start of the season. A major focus is on increasing participation among 5-12 year-olds – and, particularly, to help your club benefit from this growth.

The amazing crowds at the T20 World Cup provided a great demonstration of the opportunity cricket has connect with all our communities as we strive to be A Sport for All That Makes Australians Proud. Continued initiatives in Woolworths Cricket Blast, girls and all-abilities cricket are just some of the other great opportunities we want to help you take.

We are also grateful to those who have been part of our digital transformation this summer.
We appreciate this has created inconvenience for some clubs and volunteers, and we remain dedicated to ensuring you have the best possible digital and online experience in the seasons to come.

We hope you have an enjoyable Christmas and that we can help you and your club thrive in the New Year.

Pink Stumps Day is the McGrath Foundation’s largest grassroots fundraising initiative that encourages people to turn their cricket game pink, raise funds for McGrath Breast Care Nurses and show support to families in the community experiencing breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, so the McGrath Breast Care nurses are more important than ever.

By getting out and hosting a Pink Stumps Day to raise vital funds you can help ensure no one misses out on the care of a McGrath Breast Care Nurse.

With 55 people diagnosed with breast cancer every day, Pink Stumps Day plays an integral role in raising money to fund McGrath Breast Care Nurses who provide vital support to people with breast cancer and their families, for free.

While the official Pink Stumps Day isn’t until February 2023, people can hold an event at any time by registering at www.pinkstumpsday.com.au

Everyone who registers to host a Pink Stumps Day can choose to receive a set of Pink Stumps or kit for their match.

Gatorade are proud hydration partners of Cricket Australia and the unofficial sponsor of Christmas Day backyard cricket.

The summer of cricket has just begun and we’re excited to see our mate Marnus rack up a few more tons against South Africa, before Pheebs and the Aussie girls take on Pakistan in the new year.

Stay hydrated this Christmas, remember to stretch and leave a Gatorade out for Santa, facing that many deliveries is sweaty work.

Merry Cricketmas.
